Both split your wallet into 5 cryptographic shards using Shamir's Secret Sharing, both need any 2 shards to make a transaction, and neither asks you to back up a seed phrase. What changes is how you own and use your crypto every day. * **Cypherock X1** gives you a dedicated hardware device, the X1 Vault, with its own screen and controls, managed from the cySync desktop app. * **Cypherock X0** replaces the X1 Vault with the phone you already carry. Any 2 shards can make a transaction, and a single shard on its own reveals nothing about your wallet. 2. **No seed phrase to back up.** Your 5 shards are your backup. Even if you lose up to 3 of them, your assets are still accessible from the remaining 2. 3. **Your wallet only exists for a moment.** Your wallet is reconstructed only when you make a transaction, and every temporary secret is erased as soon as the transaction is signed. 4. **PIN protection that can't be brute-forced.** Your PIN is checked inside the EAL6+ certified secure element of the card, and CyLock adds longer and longer waits after repeated wrong attempts. 5. **Genuine cards only.** Every card is authenticated with Cypherock's servers before you can use it. 6. **No lock-in.** Both wallets are BIP39 compatible, so you can always view your seed phrase and move to any other BIP39 wallet. ## How each one works {% tabs %} {% tab title="Cypherock X1" %} Cypherock X1 is built around the **X1 Vault**, a dedicated hardware device with a screen and a joystick. The X1 Vault connects to the cySync desktop app over USB and talks to the X1 Cards over encrypted NFC. When you make a transaction: 1. You review the transaction on the X1 Vault's screen and enter your PIN on the X1 Vault. 2. You tap any one X1 Card on the X1 Vault. 3. The X1 Vault reconstructs your wallet in its temporary memory from its own shard and the shard on the X1 Card. 4. The X1 Vault signs the transaction. 5. The private key is erased from the X1 Vault's temporary memory. {% endtab %} {% tab title="Cypherock X0" %} Cypherock X0 is built around the **X0 Card**. Every X0 Card carries an EAL6+ certified secure element that can reconstruct your wallet and sign transactions on its own. Your phone runs the X0 Wallet App and stores one encrypted shard in its hardware-backed secure storage. When you make a transaction: 1. You enter the transaction details and your PIN in the X0 Wallet App. 2. You tap any one X0 Card on your phone. 3. The X0 Card checks your PIN and reconstructs your wallet inside its secure element from its own shard and your phone's shard. 4. The X0 Card signs the transaction and erases every temporary secret. 5. The X0 Wallet App sends the signed transaction to the blockchain. They meet the same security standard and simply move the trusted hardware to a different place: the X1 Vault in X1, and the X0 Card in X0. {% endhint %} ## Common questions **Is Cypherock X0 a lighter version of Cypherock X1?**\ No. Cypherock X0 isn't X1 with features removed. It moves secure computation from the X1 Vault into the X0 Card, so your phone can take the X1 Vault's place as the everyday interface. **Does my phone hold my private key with Cypherock X0?**\ No. Your phone stores one encrypted shard, which reveals nothing about your wallet on its own. Your wallet is only ever reconstructed inside an X0 Card's secure element, and only for as long as it takes to sign. **Do I need to write down a seed phrase with either wallet?**\ No. With both wallets, your shards are your backup. You can still view your seed phrase at any time if you want to.
