# Eliminate seed phrase backups

Seed phrase backups on paper or metal sheets have the risk of being damaged, lost, or stolen. More importantly, they are a single point of failure: anyone who finds your seed phrase can instantly transfer all the funds secured by your wallet. You can read more about this problem in [Eliminate messy paper backups](/cypherock-x1-features/eliminate-messy-paper-backups.md).

Like Cypherock X1, Cypherock X0 removes the need to back up your seed phrase at all. When you create a wallet, the X0 Card uses an algorithm called Shamir Secret Sharing to split it into 5 shards: one on each of your 4 X0 Cards, and one stored encrypted on your smartphone. Any 2 shards can be used together to access your wallet, while no single shard reveals anything about it. Instead of having to back up a singular seed phrase, your 5 shards become your backup.

## What this means for you

* **No paper or metal backups.** There's nothing to write down, buy, hide or protect.
* **Lost your phone?** Install the X0 Wallet App on a new phone, tap any 2 of your X0 Cards and enter your wallet PIN. Your wallet is restored, with no seed phrase needed.
* **Lost an X0 Card?** Your phone and your remaining X0 Cards still give you access to your wallet.
* **No single place holds everything.** Carry one X0 Card with your phone for everyday use, and keep your other X0 Cards in separate places.

## Your seed phrase is still yours

Seedless doesn't mean locked-in. Cypherock X0 is BIP39 compatible, so you can view the seed phrase of any of your wallets whenever you want, using your phone, 2 of your X0 Cards and your wallet PIN, and use it with any other BIP39 compatible wallet. When you create a new wallet, you can also choose whether its seed phrase has 12, 18 or 24 words.
